Production – Media Support Activities

Avehi produces slide shows, videos, flashcards and flipcharts and poster exhibitions on relevant subjects in response to user / field needs. The focus has been on low cost aids for facilitating campaigns on current topical issues.

We also adapt, translate and dub existing materials into local languages to make them more appropriate for community use in the city as well as outside Mumbai. We have translated 241 scripts of slide shows and video films into local languages and dubbed 76 video films and 15 slide shows at Avehi studio.

Avehi’s focus of training is also to empower the teachers and community workers with skills for production of visual aids. We have developed training modules on production and Facilitation of posters, flashcards and puppets for teachers, health educators and community workers and have brought out a training manual on production of Flashcards and posters for Training and Awareness programmes.

SOME OF AVEHI’S PRODUCTIONS

  • 1984- Scripting & Recording of the Marathi version 16 mm film ‘Prophecy’ with Anant Bhave’s voice.
  • 1984- Scripting, Recording of the slide show Aesop’s Fables in English and Marathi.
  • 1985- Contract with UNICEF for production of two audio visuals in Hindi and Marathi as part of the series on Destitute Children meant for training of the staff of institutions for abandoned and destitute children all over the country.
  • 1986 – Two slide shows, funded by Computer Maintenance Corporate Ltd – “Avehi: Empowering People Through Media” in English and Hindi  “Dadaji Ki Kahani” on hazards of tobacco smoking in Hindi and English for 12-16 year old children.
  • 1997- Advocacy video film on Avehi funded by World Health Organisation.
  • 1997- Chart exhibition in Marathi produced in collaboration with Committee of Resource Organisations on Public Distribution System and the Rights of the Ration Card Holders.
  • 1998- Production of Hindi version of the video film ‘Prophecy’ on Hiroshima-Nagasaki with Naseeruddin Shah’s voice – recorded at Avehi studio.
  • 2000- Production of poster presentation on display boards about Avehi.
  • 2000 – 2003 Production of language versions of films and slide shows by translation into Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati of 241 scripts of slide shows and video films by a panel of professional translators and dubbing into Hindi and Marathi of 76 video films and 15 slide shows by Avehi’s professional dubbing team at Avehi Recording Studio.
  • 2002- 2007 In a five year partnership with Mahila Rajsatta Andolan (MRA), a   network promoted by Resource Support & Centre for Development (RSCD) which works in 1000 villages in 26 districts of Maharashtra and is engaged in strengthening the governance role of women members of Gram Panchayat and development groups and in creating support systems to ensure their active and effective participation in Panchayat Raj Instituions Avehi has worked closely with MRA for production of three media kits which meet the emerging needs of the campaign. They are disseminated and utilized by MRA for awareness generation, capacity building and training with positive results.

    The second kit also includes flipcharts on ‘Women and Law’.
    Gujarati version of first two kits was also produced for Western India Forum for Panchyati Raj, a network of 100 NGOs in rural Gujarat.

    The third media kit is on Gender Sensitization in Marathi with Hindi script also available. Appealing to people’s conscience, inviting them to look within, to critically review the reality closer home, by gentle probing – by presenting situations which speak for themselves, situations which are not explosive, and are routine situations which illustrate how gender discrimination continues in a subtle way and using a story form-this is what the kit aims at. Addressed to men particularly, it is a step to ensure full contribution of women along with men towards social change to enhance the quality of life for both.

    The media kit consists of 4 Flip Charts (a total of 61 cards). Each card has a visual on one side and the script on rear side. The last page of each flip chart gives questions for discussion. Each flip chart addresses one pertinent theme concerning women.

    The themes are:

    1.     Raghu Ani Sakhu : Equal opportunities for women and men

    2.     Kondmara : Sexual Harassment of girls / women

    3.     Kisan Ani Radhachi Gosht : Women’s Health

    4.     Asahi Ghadu Shakta: Women and Governance.

    There is an accompanying resource guide (30 pages) which discusses the themes, offers guidelines for preparation and presentation and it also includes questions for post-session discussion.
